Letter from the Chancellor

Making Connections

As Tritons, we share a unique bond that transcends geography, disciplines and decades, because the people who are drawn to UC San Diego share much in common—we are innovators, intellectuals, risk-takers and humanists. Our curiosity and drive lead us to break from the ordinary to conduct breakthrough work in order to benefit our society and world. These traits connect us.

It is my goal to enhance these connections among our alumni, students, faculty and staff. A prime example is the UC San Diego & You alumni program that re-connects graduates with their fellow Tritons and imparts the latest faculty research positively impacting our society. This year, I’ve attended three of these events in Washington, D.C., Silicon Valley and Los Angeles. I’ve been exceedingly impressed with the people I’ve met—alumni who’ve created their own businesses, who are influencing and shaping national policy, and who’ve devoted their careers to public service. I am proud of the achievements of our alumni, who reflect the best of our university, enhance our reputation as a world leader in higher education, and use their UC San Diego education to make our world a better place.

With 170,000 graduates and 33,000 current students, our network of Tritons is growing and strengthening. Together, we can continue to create meaningful opportunities to connect and collaborate as members of the elite Triton community.

I hope to see you soon, and I personally invite all of our graduates back to campus for
our extended Alumni Weekend, June 2-5.
